| Perception
I have been thinking lately that to prepare myself for
the boy getting bigger, I need to think like him. This should prepare me
for certain events that will almost certainly happen. Events that would
be unheard of for a little girl growing up, may occur with a son. Being
a guy, I think this should not be too hard. And to contrast that, I have
experience with Kayla to know probably how young ladies see things. I am
going to set up an example for my own perception practice.
There was a big storm the other day, knocked out power for maybe one
hundred-thousand St. Louis residents. A lot of trees and portions of trees
were down. Looking at the aftermath, I had visions. I saw through the possible
eyes of a 9 year old boy and girl. For instance, when I see a storm
battered tree that has landed on a Buick LeSabre, through the eyes of a
9 year old girl, I see some poor person's car that has a broken back window
and a tree laying on it. I quickly imagine how someone would get the tree
off. I also imagine how the poor tree must feel, being dead or injured
and all.
But as a 9 year old boy, when I look at the scene of the downed tree,
I see something that must be climbed. Not many of us would need to be reminded
that a felled tree is not a stationary object. So if one were to climb
on it, ones' weight would lend to the shifting of weight, hence the tree
moves. And with this movement comes a small head upon the bumper of a Buick
LaSabre that inevitably leaves a little skin behind. So that was pretty
easy. I will try again.
I checked on Kayla the other day when she went out to play. She had
asked if she could go and when she should check back in. I looked outside
a few times later and saw her playing some game that looked like tag but
turns out it is called something complicated like, "ballerina dancing pursuit".
Then later saw her and friends petting some cat, and holding hands while
they walk to someone else's house. How nice this all was watching this,
now to close my eyes for a moment and think
what the boy would look like. First, he asks if he can go outside and
storms out before getting an answer. Then I see him playing some game that
he says is called tag, but it looks like he is playing try to knock the
other boy down. Second, he is throwing rocks at a cat and punching his
"friend" while walking to someone else's house. I think I am getting the
hang of this.
